Your Task as an Affiliate Marketer

As an affiliate marketer, your task is mainly to do two things: traffic generation and preselling. Generate tons of traffic to the website of the affiliate program that you are promoting, presell the traffic (if possible) to get a higher conversion, and let the merchant do the rest.
Traffic generation is going to form a big part of your work and with 101 ways of getting traffic, you are probably going to have to focus on a few main ways that suits you best. Develop competency in that few ways and use the other methods as a reinforcement.
As your time is limited, it is also important to be very selective of the merchants or programs that you want to be promoting. A bad selection criteria is to rely solely on the amount of commission. There are many other factors which you should also consider and I will discuss about them in a future article.
If a prospective merchant does not fit your criteria, don’t waste your time telling the merchant to change this or that on his website. Move on and find another merchant that fits your criteria. There are thousands of affiliate programs for you to choose from. A critical process of affiliate marketing is to select a suitable merchant.
The only time you want to do so is when that merchant has a pretty unique product that is not available elsewhere and it is very well suited for the traffic you are having.
Otherwise, learn when to say no when someone asks you to promote his product.
The point I’m trying to make is this: Focus on your tasks as an affiliate marketer. Unless you want to do consulting (which is a totally different ball game altogether), do not be dragged into discussions into how to improve the website of a merchant. These are often time consuming and non-productive tasks. Learn to value your time.
Discussions are more productive when you are already promoting a particular (good) affiliate program and you have ideas to make it even better.
