Recommended Wordpress Plugins
Mar 17th, 2008 by Martin Lee
A majority of my sites are constructed using wordpress as I find the system easy to update and very SEO friendly. You can also install various plugins to enhance the functionality of the site. The only pain is the process of updating (all!) the site(s) when a new version of wordpress or plugin is released.
Here’s a list of wordpress plugins you can considering installing:
Allows you to easily place Google Adsense advertisements throughout your blog. Despite what the name implies, you can pretty much use it to customise placement of anything you want.
A plugin that enhances that navigation of your site by showing related posts at the end of every post.
This is a must have plugin that enhances the SEO of your site. A very frequently updated plugin too.
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator
A very nice plugin that helps you create a user-friendly sitemap that looks like this ==> Investment site
This plugin helps you to easily integrate your blog with feedburner. If you don’t know what feedburner is, all I can say is that Feedburner is a service you should use if you are planning to offer RSS feeds to your readers.
This helps you to create a google sitemap you can submit to google to help in their search engine indexing. This can be managed inside Google Webmaster Tools.
Adds a very nice looking button at the end of every post that allows your readers to easily submit your link to social networking sites.
This plugin allows you to easily install the code for Google Analytics on your site and customise it.
Adds a mathematical question that readers have to answer before they can leave a comment. This helps to filter out automated spam comments.
Helps to gives your post a score to reflect their popularity based on select criteria you can specify. You can then use the JAW Popular Posts Widget to show the “Most Popular” posts on your blog.
Allows the wordpress search engine to search pages, excerpts, attachments, drafts, comments, tags and custom fields (metadata). Also offers the ability to exclude specific pages and posts. Does not search password-protected content.
A must-have plugin to filter out trackback spam.
Allows readers to receive email notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry.
Tracks views, post/page views, referrers, and clicks. Requires a WordPress.com API key. This is optional if you are already using Google Analytics.
Helps create a “contact me form” that your readers can use to email you.

Wow - one of the most comprehensive list I’ve seen! :)
For my new blogging experience with Wordpress, I’ve also installed 2 plugins U may wish to explore (?), Martin..
… Intouch
‘intouch’ allows you to insert a custom build contact form, which on submission will send the information via email. Configuration options can be found under ‘Options’ in wp-admin. This has been tested and works fine on WordPress 1.5+ By Venushka Perera.
… Spam Karma 2
Ultimate Spam Killer for WordPress. By dr Dave.
i’ve been looking for something to tie in my rss feed with feedburner but just have been toooo lazy to look it up.
thanks for the tip.
Hi TA,
Thanks for adding. Your intouch would be similar to my contactform and.
Not too sure about spamkiller though. I’m using both simple trackback validation and Akismet which I didn’t list out.
Hi Clueless, you are welcome.
