Google has recently added a new feature to their keyword tool to help advertisers more accurately plan their adwords campaigns. In the past, they only showed a graph telling us whether the search volume was low, medium or high. Now they provide the approximate figure. The information is reflected in two columns:

Approx Search Volume [Previous Month]: This column shows the approximate number of search queries matching your keywords that were performed on Google and the search network in the previous calendar month. This number is specific to your targeted country and language as well as your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu.

Approx Avg Search Volume: This column shows the approximate average monthly number of search queries matching your keywords that were performed on Google and the search network over a recent 12-month period. This number is specific to your targeted country and language as well as your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu.

For more information, you can refer to the google help files on this topic.

If Google should one day decide to provide a full fledge keyword research tool for free, that might spell the doom for companies currently providing this service.

These are two great ways to speed up your blog. Remember, the faster your site loads, the less likely new visitors to your site will hit the “back” button.

1) Install the wordpress super-cache plugin

This helps to create static html cache pages for your site.

2) Change some of the references to the database in your wordpress theme header file to static text. If you won’t be changing any of your site’s settings, then it really shouldn’t matter.

For example, you can change

  • change your stylesheet URL
  • change your pingback URL
  • change your feed URL
  • remove the blog’s WordPress version
  • change your blog’s name and description

These changes can speed up the loading of your theme significantly.

3) The same thing can be done for your footer file.

  • Your blog’s name
  • RSS feed URL
  • Comment RSS feed URL

I made some of these changes on my heavy traffic sites and the difference is significant. :)

I was having a look at the stompernet site seer tool which was released a few days ago. This tool is supposed to check how well your site is search engine optimized. My verdict?

The tool gives some very basic information about your site. For example:

  • Number of yahoo backlinks
  • Number of pages indexed by google
  • Number of pages indexed by yahoo
  • Whether it is listed in Dmoz
  • Title tag and meta tag analysis
  • Heading analysis
  • Technorati ranking
  • Site groups

These are all pretty basic information which you would probably be able to check on your own. Nothing too fantastic I think. The only one that is more slightly more interesting is the site groups. This is what Google thinks your site is related to.

What impressed me however, were the free bonus videos on the page. The discussion on SEO and Google Adwords offers some cutting edge information which you should have a look at. There was one video which talked about the Adwords Triangulation Method.

Check it out here if you haven’t done so yet:

I haven’t used Google Adsense for Search for a long time as the results seem to be quite poor. Google has improved it allowing you to customise the look of the search results, the urls they are from, as well as to target specific keywords. Here’s the video from Google showing how it works.

Recently, Google Adwords has added the option for advertisers to be able to do demographics targeting on their content network. How it works is that some content sites have profile information on their users (eg Myspace) . Google can then make use of this information to allow advertisers to target the desired demographics.

Obviously, not all websites on Google Adsense will be able to allow us to target the demographics. But don’t forget some of the bigger sites (that might be delivering more traffic to you) might allow it.

Here’s an advanced tracking tip for Google Adwords marketers. Google actually allows you to pass some parameters to your destination urls to help in your tracking. You can make use of this tracking on your own site, or to help you monitor your sales to an affiliate site you are promoting.

A majority of my sites are constructed using wordpress as I find the system easy to update and very SEO friendly. You can also install various plugins to enhance the functionality of the site. The only pain is the process of updating (all!) the site(s) when a new version of wordpress or plugin is released.

Here’s a list of wordpress plugins you can considering installing:

This afternoon, I had a frustrating 30 minutes with a staff from the Google Adwords helpdesk. I contact Adwords because I had a website that had been penalised with a low quality score by Google. Thus, it was almost impossible for any of my Google Adwords advertisements to show for that website.
